For the fifth year in a row, Palm Beach and the Breakers Resort provided the final stop on the 2013 Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour. Breaking with tradition, the dinner party was held on Friday evening at the chic Palm Beach restaurant, Café Boulud.
On Saturday, long time sponsor, Braman MotorCars Palm Beach, again transported all the players in Rolls Royces to a lunch at the Flagler Steakhouse before hitting the courts for the first afternoon of competition. By the end of the afternoon's play, a glorious day of weather and the completion of over 40 matches, Arik Kislin / Robert Kendrick, Larry Leeds / Don Johnson, Vahan Gureghian / Josh Cohen, Danny Weingeist / Graydon Oliver, Andrew Gazdik / Scott Davis, John Cohlan / Andrei Pavel, Eddie Dibbs / Jonathan Schneider and Jerry Katell / Rick Leach all emerged as strong contenders to win the event after the first day of play.
After freshening up, players and their guests were treated to the traditional cocktail party, graciously hosted by Joel Pashcow, at his beautiful waterfront home in Palm Beach.
On Sunday, following a barbeque lunch and a doubles exhibition between Murphy Jensen, Scott Davis, Jared Palmer and Don Johnson, a foursome with multiple grand slams titles as well as over 80 ATP singles and doubles titles, players headed for the courts for the final rounds of the pro/am. After a few hours of play, mother nature decided to make an unwelcome appearance with a dramatic tropical rain storm that had everyone running for cover! At this point, Vahan Gureghian and pro partner Josh Cohen had won their division and were about to take on Steve Powers and John Lloyd, winners of their division. In the other groups, teams Andrew Gazdik/Scott Davis, John Cohlan/Andrei Pavel, Arik Kislin/Robert Kislin and Eddie Dibbs/Jonathan Schneider were all in contention to win before rain rudely interrupted play. After careful consideration, it was decided to have all six teams share the championship title. Congratulations to our champions and all the teams for providing 2 entertaining days of tennis.
As can be seen from the final standings on the leader board, we have 2 first time champions of the 2013 Charles Evans PCF Pro/Am Tour. Tough and competitive Arik Kislin and equally competitive, as well as a long time supporter of PCF pro/am’s, Larry Leeds. Congratulations to both champions for not only providing spectators with so many great matches on the 2013 tour, but also for your generous support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
On behalf of The Prostate Cancer Foundation, I would like to take this opportunity to thank one more time, all the players that competed around the country at the PCF Tour events, The Charles Evans Foundation, as well as all of our sponsors: Movado, Babolat, Braman Motorcars Palm Beach, JFI Jets, Cote de Chic Event Management, Thorlo, and Margaritaville.
Wishing everyone the very best for 2014 and looking forward to seeing you on the tour!
