The 3rd stop on the 2012 Charles Evans PCF pro/am tour brought our competitors to the ever popular Hamptons for the 8th annual “Classic”. Players gathered on Friday evening at the beautiful beach house residence of Deanna and Bob Adler. The hosts organized an “All White” event from the guest’s attire to the outdoor crisp décor. Guests were entertained with a live band and a spectacular singer, while they bustled around greeting and mingling, savoring the fun foods that were offered.
On Saturday morning, unfortunately, rain forced all competitors indoors to the Sportime tennis facility in Quogue, for the first two rounds. However weather conditions were soon forgotten once competition kicked into action! Afterwards, the annual lunch at the Palin estate proved yet again a highlight of the weekend. The Palin family served up their famous lobster rolls and other traditional Hamptons delicacies.
On Saturday evening Julia and David Koch hosted a spectacular dinner party at their magnificent Southampton ocean front home. Guests gathered poolside for cocktails and then were directed to the transformed, tented tennis court complete with luxurious décor and lounge style seating after an extensive buffet of savories and sweets. The attendees were treated at the special occasion with John Lloyd acting as Master of Ceremonies, inviting an old time friend of Jimmy Connors, Ilie Nastase, on stage to “roast” Connors for his 60th birthday. Overhead video screens provided footage of the 2 legends in action during their years on the ATP tour. Jimmy then followed with entertaining stories of his life on the tour.
The following day at the Sportime club in Quogue, following lunch and a doubles exhibition featuring John Lloyd, Johan Kriek, Bruno Soares and Bobby Reynolds, players took to the courts for the final 2 rounds. In the one division, Ricky Sandler and his pro partner Rick Leach, with their phenomenal winning streak of 19 matches in a row, were upset by first time entry Arik Kislin and pro partner Robert Kendrick. It was a great victory for Arik and Robert. In the other division, Adam Finerman and pro Bobby Reynolds beat Jasper Ott and James Cerretani in an exciting final which went the distance with a tie-break deciding the outcome. Both finals provided highly entertaining tennis for the spectators. Congratulations to both Champions and Finalists!
Our leader board reveals Joel Pashcow in the lead, followed by Arik Kislin, Ted Virtue, Ed Snider, Adam Finerman, Fernando Sartorius and Jay Comerford. The final event for the year, hosted in Palm Beach, will reveal the 2 tour champions for 2012.
Once again, a very big thank you to the Charles Evans Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. David Koch, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Adler, The Palin Family, Mr. & Mrs. Ricky Sandler, Mr. & Mrs. Allan Rose, Movado, Thorlo, Babolat and all of the Hamptons Amateurs and Pros.
Next stop…Palm Beach!
